Understanding Reconstitution: Think of It Like Juice Concentrate
Imagine you have a bottle of juice concentrate. The concentrate contains all the flavor, but it is too concentrated by itself. To make a full pitcher, you add water.
Peptide reconstitution works in a similar way
- The vial size, measured in mg, is like the amount of juice concentrate.
- The diluent, measured in mL, is like the water added to the pitcher.
- The more liquid you add, the more diluted the mixture becomes.
- The total amount of material in the vial never changes. You are simply spreading it through more liquid.
10 mg + 2 mL
The vial still contains 10 mg total. If you added 4 mL instead, the vial would still contain 10 mg total. It would simply be mixed into twice as much liquid.
Think of it like making lemonade
- Less water = stronger concentrate
- More water = weaker concentrate
- Same total amount of concentrate
The calculator uses those numbers to determine:
- The concentration of the mixture.
- How much liquid contains the selected research amount.
- The equivalent syringe units for easier measurement.
What the Calculator Is Showing You
Concentration
Concentration means how much material is in each mL of liquid.
Example: 10 mg vial + 2 mL diluent = 5 mg/mL. Every 1 mL contains 5 mg of material.
Volume to Draw
Volume to draw means how much liquid would contain the selected research amount.
Example: If concentration is 5 mg/mL and the selected research amount is 2.5 mg, the calculator will show 0.50 mL.
Insulin Units
Insulin units convert the draw volume into the markings commonly shown on a syringe.
- 100 units = 1 mL
- 50 units = 0.50 mL
- 25 units = 0.25 mL
- 10 units = 0.10 mL
Example: 0.50 mL = 50 units.
Doses Per Vial
Doses per vial estimates how many equal research amounts can be measured from the vial.
Example: 10 mg vial + selected research amount of 2.5 mg = 4 uses per vial.
Important Reminder
Adding more diluent does not add more material. It only changes how concentrated the mixture is.
The calculator is not telling you what amount to use. It is only helping convert vial size, diluent volume, and selected research amount into concentration, draw volume, and syringe units.
